Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my journey as I accomplish 50 new things during My year of 50!

Showering in the wild!

Showering in the wild!

During our African Safari we stayed in two locations with outdoor showers.  The first was Tembe Elephant Park in South Africa.  We stayed in a lovely tent with full amenities including a wonderful outdoor shower.  This was the definition of “Glamping.”  This was also my first time in an outdoor shower!  There was lots of privacy- which I appreciated.  When I first disrobed outside I was a little nervous- I’m just not used to being that free outside!  When I stepped under the rain shower spout I felt the cool breeze, heard the birds chirping and saw bugs trying to avoid the shower like a middle school student. It was an exhilarating experience!

Next we stayed in the Mykaya Game Park in Swaziland.  Here our accommodation was a stone rondaval- a hut with basically no exterior walls higher than 2 feet. We had no electricity, and slept under mosquito nets.  What was a teenager’s worst nightmare, made for an absolutely magical experience for me and the kids!  During my shower there was no privacy from the animals or people if they chose to go off the path.  I had Nyala and Impala (both antelope-like animals) visit me during my showers.  Fortunately no two legged visitors! I’d shower in the wild anytime!  #15✔
